Thread-lifting

Thread Lifting is a procedure that lifts and tightens sagging skins by stimulating collagen production. This is done by imbedding multiple, fine threads, made of Polydioxanone (PDO), into the skin which then produces an immediate, visible lifting effect (while also supporting natural collagen production). Thread lifting procedure is administered under local anaesthetic, with minimum or no downtime. It takes approximately 30 – 90 minutes, after which your skin will feel lifted and tightened.

PRE-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS

A full consultation with Dr Julia Coelho is required to ensure you are an ideal candidate for treatment. You will be prescribed an oral antibiotic to take one hour before the procedure and for 2 additional days to reduce the chance of infection if indicated by the treatment area. Oral antihistamine is also recommended prior to treatment to reduce risk of swelling.

Aspirin prescribed for a medical indication should not be terminated. However, bruising is more likely. Patients at risk of Herpes labialis are advised to take prophylactic acyclovir tablets and should apply topical cream, especially if threads are to be inserted around the lips. Arnica tablets taken from about 5 days pre-treatment may be beneficial in reducing swelling and bruising after the treatment.

F.A.Q.

WHEN WILL I START SEEING RESULTS?

There is an immediate improvement after Thread-Lift treatments. Further improvement is noticed over a period of 2-6 months as new collagen grows between the threads and gives further lift and tightening to the skin. The PDO threads gradually dissolve over about 6 months, but the resulting lift remains.

CAN PDO THREAD-LIFTING BE COMBINED WITH OTHER TREATMENTS?

Yes. PDO thread-lifting is routinely used in conjunction with other procedures to harmonize the face and achieve an aesthetic balance, these may include wrinkle relaxing injections (i.e. botulinum toxin), dermal fillers, chemical peels and skin optimisation procedures.
